The number of total GameCube games sold as of December 2022 is 205.58 million units. You might think that number wouldn’t change over the years. However, it’s actually 10,000 units higher than the previous number which was reported in March of 2009.

The 3DS, being a much more recent system, is also still seeing some action. The number of 3DS games sold now stands at 392.02 million units as of June 2024. That number is 60,000 units higher than the previous one from 3 months earlier. As of now, a total of 75.94 million 3DS systems have been sold as well.

Mario Kart ist hier aber auch extrem bekannt. Unser zweiter Sohn heißt Yoshi und die Hebammen auf der Station haben durch die Bank erkannt, dass das "der Dino von Mario Kart" ist ^^.

Nächste Woche steht die bereits dritte Preiserhöhung der PS5 an.

Dass der Preis der digitalen PS5 sich fast verdoppelt hat, ist vielleicht in Anbetracht des schwachen Yens nachvollziehbar, aber absolut wild. Früher sind Konsolen mal günstiger geworden mit der Zeit...

ja, das ist schon echt krass. Zumal die Geräte in anderen Ländern ja auch nicht wirklich billiger geworden sind (sonst gerne widersprechen!); sprich: es ist davon auszugehen, dass es keine wesentlichen Prozessverbesserungen gab, die die Herstellungskosten gesenkt hätten (gehe nicht davon aus, dass Sony richtig Marge mit den Konsolen machen will; vermutlich schon ein bisschen [? - ich weiß, früher hat man Konsolen mit Verlust verkauft; heute bin ich mir nicht sicher] aber nicht so dass es die Verkäufe torpedieren soll...). Oder andersrum: Der Fortschritt bei der Weiterentwicklung von Hardwarekomponenten stagniert (bzw. ist bei weitem nicht mehr so groß wie früher).
Eine PS6 wird ja vermutlich auch nicht billiger werden (also in Japan vielleicht; sollte halt der Yen wieder stärker werden).

Die PS5 Preiserhöhung zeigt jetzt ihre Wirkung.

wenn man sieht dass die PS5 sich dieses Jahr 1 Mio verkauft hat und letztes 2 Mio, dann könnte man meinen dass wir am Ende der Generation seien. Schon traurig irgendwie (traurig weil ich finde dass sie nicht aus den Puschen kam und nun gefühlt schon die Luft raus ist). Naja immerhin sind die 9,5 Mio der PS4 nicht so weit weg.

Na ja, der japanische Gaming Markt hat sich in den letzten 20 Jahren auch enorm gewandelt. Heimkonsolen spielen schon lange keine große Rolle mehr und Sony selbst trägt auch seit der PS3 nichts dazu bei, dass sich das ändert. Selbst die Thirds wie Capcom & Co. orientieren sich ja stark am westlichen Markt.
Und so JRPGs ziehen auch nicht mehr so wie früher. Richtig problematisch ist das imo vor allem für Squeenix und die Final Fantasy-Marke.

Jetzt passen endlich die PS5 Hardwarezahlen zu den grottigen Softwareverkäufen. Der billige Japan-Import von der PS5 fällt jetzt wohl weg.
